Hari Batik Nasional adalah hari perayaan nasional Indonesia untuk memperingati ditetapkannya batik sebagai Warisan Kemanusiaan untuk Budaya Lisan dan Nonbendawi (Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity ) pada 2 Oktober 2009 oleh UNESCO. Pada tanggal ini, beragam lapisan masyarakat dari pejabat pemerintah dan pegawai BUMN, hingga pelajar disarankan untuk mengenakan batik. Batik pertama kali diperkenalkan kepada dunia internasional oleh Presiden Soeharto saat mengikuti konferensi PBB. Batik Indonesia didaftarkan untuk mendapat status Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) melalui kantor UNESCO di Jakarta oleh kantor Menko Kesejahteraan Rakyat mewakili pemerintah dan komunitas batik Indonesia, pada 4 September 2008.Pengajuan itu pun membuahkan hasil bagi pemerintahan Presiden Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono.Pada 9 Januari 2009, pengajuan batik untuk Warisan Kemanusiaan untuk Budaya Lisan dan Nonbendawi UNESCO diterima secara resmi. Batik dikukuhkan pada sidang keempat Komite Antar-Pemerintah tentang Warisan Budaya Nonbendawi yang diselenggarakan UNESCO di Abu Dhabi pada 2 Oktober 2009. Pada sidang tersebut batik resmi terdaftar sebagai Warisan Kemanusiaan Karya Agung Budaya Lisan dan Nonbendawi di UNESCO. Sebelumnya selain batik, UNESCO juga sudah mengakui keris dan wayang sebagai Warisan Kemanusiaan Karya Agung Budaya Lisan dan Nonbendawi. Badan PBB untuk kebudayaan atau United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization , (UNESCO) kemudian menetapkan batik sebagai Warisan Kemanusiaan untuk Budaya Lisan dan Nonbendawi (Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity ). Pemerintah Indonesia menerbitkan Kepres No 33 Tahun 2009 yang menetapan hari Batik Nasional juga dalam rangka meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap upaya perlindungan dan pengembangan batik Indonesia.
